Car`nt understand how you can be made to have a tv license. It`s like been made to tax a car but you don`t own one or paying sky subscription and you don`t have sky.

There must be a way of getting round this. Surly if don`t watch their tv or watch all their repeats on uk gold etc you should`nt have to pay

Been there before. The BBC TV license covers radio too, not just TV. You'd probably have to live in a cave to avoid everything the BBC produce.

The other option would be self supporting TV companies. If you've ever watched TV in America, you'll know that this is 'a bad thing'. Their TV is terrible. You get at least as much commercial time as programme time.

I know that you don't need one if you play games on it and watch videos. But if you want the telly on, forget it, you need a licence.

You can always risk it and not have one, but as watching a TV without a licence is more of a crime than nicking your truck, your taking some chances.

No, I think that the license fee should be abolished. Just look at al the cr@p on over christmas. So many repeats so what are they actually doing with the money. I prefer to have the discovery channels on and for these and others think that the sky subscription is value for money. There should be choice so that those who do not want to watch BBC don't pay. As for the radio, then have a reduced fee as a radio licence or make these commercial as well. At least if the heads of the BBC had to rely on income from the private sector then they may be more thoughtful as to what they choose to broadcast.

Isn't it the BBC that brought us Ant and Dec? Say no more!

Any equipment that is capable of reception of the various T.V channels requires a licence, whether you use it or not.

I don`t think their radio stations are that great, and they all have a few jumped up overpaid DJ`s on massive wages(probably the real reason for the price hike), i,e Jonathan Ross

And as far as the adverts go i`ve no problem with them on all the ITV and Sky Channels

Given that a large wedge of the icence fee is going on the upgrade to digital, which is likely to result in more of the junk I don't watch and less of the (already very little) that I do, and that the switch to digital, when complete, will be followed by the government selling-off the analogue TV transmission frequencies, giving a large Treasury bonus, similar to the mobile phone network sales, should the government not be borrowing against itself to finance the switch to digital and leave the BBC to spend its money on programmes?

Licence fee comes down, programme quality and variety goes up, jobs get saved, etc..

Biggest con going, digital. Improved reception and picture quality my arse. They should at least have the decency to leave the analogue channels running alongside.
