Slightly on a tangent but I remember how surprised I was when I saw on some TV documentary how flammable vhs tapes are. I think it was a film about how fire spreads and boy when the fire hit the tapes did it spread!

If we're playing tangents, I remember when we got our first VCR and the whole family used to go on a 30 mile round trip to buy a blank tape for £20 (in 1981).

I've just bought a dvd recorder (under £50) as my old vhs recorder packed up recording. Its just a case of linking the video player to the recorder and bunging in a blank dvd. 1 dvd will record up to 8hrs but at 4hrs the quality's better.

one way to spend a wet afternoon.

Got the same problem - loads of VHS tapes.
Started feeding them through the tele and recording onto computer, then to dvd.
Realised it would take years to do it like that, so went out and rented a combined dvd/video recorder which arrives tomorrow.
Now dead easy, stick the video in and record direct to dvd.

Would'nt mind doing that, but i've got so many, is it possible to record say two films on one DVD? you know what i mean, pause recording and start the second (and maybe even third, if there's room left on the DVD)
I love the old black/white thrillers and RKO "B" movies, many of the ones i've taped over the years are not available on DVD and it seems a pity to chuck em out,
How much was the hire (or maybe even buy)

On mine, I can record up to 6 hours on one disc, but the quality isn't as good as if it is set for 2 hours, obviously, but as you're copying VHS tapes I guess the quality issue won't matter that much.
