If its only for off roading just get a PMR radio, 2 way WT its probably cheaper.

We only use it when wheelin' so you don't need anything special, we have one of these in both of our trucks so you don't need to get muddy feet to chat or find your way.

Got them cheap at a Truckfest show a while back, about £40. Work great and don't take up much room.

Also useful when stuck in traffic on motorways!

Do you have to pay some kind of fee to use them or is it all completely free when you've bought the radio?

This has been covered a few times now

You no longer need a licence

Also there are 80 ch radios on the market but this will be fazed back down to 40 ch using the european specification using the frequency range 26.965 to 27.405 Mhz in FM only no SSB .

To be honest it would be easier to use 446Mhz handies if you intend to use the radio for off roading. no wires and no hassle setting up.

so i'll have to use the EU channels?
or back to UK only like it was before?

Yeah, its the same. We're not your parents! do what you want.

Listen, i'm not radio expert, and the transmission techies on here are probably laughing at it, but it does us fine, is cheap, works great of roading and the arial makes a cool twanging noise along the roof of McD's drive thro's. So it does all we ask, which is find out where Linda has got lost a mile back up the trail! (running for cover......) and save getting out the car to ask if it lunch time yet.

I don't need to talk to china, or carry it around outside the car.
