Wow, bet that stung a bit!

A mate of mine sold his CBR and had the guy coming to pick it up that evening. He went for one last spin, and whilst caning it down a long straight between Barmouth and Talybont, an interflora van did the same to him.

He went clean over the top, though was stopped from bouncing too far by a drystone wall. Took him a while to learn to walk again.

Totally agree that everyone should spend some time on a bike (even a pushbike) in traffic before being allowed to own a car. Certainly gives you a sharp view of your own mortality.

In my cycling times, I've been taken out by a camper van which pulled out in front of me, the door mirror of a transit van (came close to going under it), a wheeltrim coming off and hitting my front wheel, and... wait for it... a 6 berth frame tent.

      same as driving a truck!

i've been hit twice on the motorway by people changing lanes into the side of me (i think one was asleep!)

once by an old fella seeing a parking space and reversing up and under the bumper (he didn't see me!)

run a BMW into cones cos he wanted to join the motorway where my trailer was located!... then looked at me like i'm a c**t when he overtook

run a discovery up a bank cos he did the same... but there was no hard shoulder and no cones!!
nee nar nee nar, i'm a fire engine!

        Why is it always BMWs?

I ran one onto the M62 at a roundabout because he'd taken the 'M62 only' lane to squeeze past the line of traffic, expecting me to get out of his way and into the path of lorries!

To55er. It was about 5 miles to the next junction too

That must have been one powerful tent to keep up with a CBR. Ever considered the bus? (not on the bike though)

Its not always, BMW's, my dad's been taken out by scafolding rolling off the side of a lorry on a roundabout, and the last one was a tractor that turned right into a yard as he was overtaking it on his Honda Goldwing.

It tore the front axle off the tractor, broken his jaw and lost his lid, broken hip, and swallowed tongue that the motorist behind pulled out for him! Tractor had no working indicators, nor on the trailer!

Now he has a VW trike, as its harder to fall off and doesn't go as quick!

Glad to see you're recovering. Reminds me how lucky I am - I am now off bikes permanently, as I suspect I've used up all the luck I am entitled to...

On the same subject, my mate saw a bike hit an unlit skip on a dark road this morning. He stopped and called 999 on his moby, a couple of other drivers went to the rider. The ambulance got there within 2 minutes (the centre is close by) but the rider hadn't moved at all in the time he was there.

Hope the moron who left the skip there gets his ar$e kicked!

It is illegal to leave a skip on the road without either a yellow flahing beacon or reflective hazzard panels on each corner, so the skip company will (hopefully) get a visit from plod and a bill for the riders injuries and bike. Hope he ok

i think you'll find that you have to have permission from the council to have a skip on the road and that its the homeowner or hirer that is responsible to have the beacons put out by the skip whether they get them from the skip company or have to buy them but thats what i saw on a program a few months back with someone who had a skip parked on the road without no warning signs/beacons

Not any more i'm affraid, it's a legal requirement for the owner (skip co) of the skip to make sure it is visable at all times. They used to get away with just painting them yellow but not anymore. Ive just sat my cscs for construction and this is one of the questions. It all came about because skip companies were leaving skips outside private properties when the owner/occupier was at work and accidents happening before they got home. On construction sites it is our responsibility to keep skips off public highways and highly visable. Private hirers are only responsible fo its contents and the permit.
