Besides for checking shaft end play etc, make shure that the oil lines and passageways are squeeky clean. If you get any crud into the oil ways thats £250+ down the pan.
If at first etc? Find a BIGGER HAMMER!

youll need new oil feed and return pipe gaskets as well as the water cooling pipes gaskets and a new manifold to turbo gasket,oh and richard .try not to snap the studs.take the compressor housing off and give it a clean with a clean lint free cloth.that way you can check the play on the bearings as well as make sure the turbine blades arnt knackered.
p.s mark the housing before you take it off,its much easier to put back together that way

if they fitted the 4runner with the same engine then it should be the same.so i think so yes.

just had the new second hand turbo delivered so tomorrow i will start to get the old one off and try to fit this one.It still has both manifolds attatched but i can't hear anything loose or rattling inside so fingers crossed everything will be ok.
I will give an update when it's fitted.
                Thanks for the replies

I think we should run a book on how many plasters you need when you have finished. Ho Ho !

Just rember if your doing it first thing in the morning or when the engine is cold penertrating/oil on the nuts and bolts.

i will get the surf into the garage in the morning and get a few bits off then give the manifold bolts etc a good soaking and leave it for a few hours and just try to work them slowly as not to shear any off....i hope

Just ordered the new gaskets for the turbo and they were cheaper than i thought at £23.29 from Parklands Toyota in Helston and they are going to deliver them free of charge on monday for me.
I know i ran Parklands Toyota at Newquay down from when i had my recall done but this lot from Helston were so helpful and even ran me thru what i needed to do when swapping the turbo. So its a big from me to Toyota in Helston

sounds good. the job itself is pretty straight forward. if i can do it then anyone can! mind you i've had practice, taken off, replaced, back to original then replaced again on the 1st gen! should be about the same on a 3litre too. have fun!
i swear, it was like that when i got here...

just use the old one. you'll not have a problem with that one. i've never changed any of the gaskets, but of all of them, this is the one i wouldn't worry about at all anyhow.
i swear, it was like that when i got here...
