  • Nearly got one - couple of questions

I know the general forum probably isn't the best for these questions, but I didn't want to put seperate ones in electrical and mechanical, and there's always more of us on this one.

I've got a deposit down on a good to excellent 94 3.0TD SSR-X, conditional on it checking out OK. It's a private sale. Can you point me in the right direction with these queries?

First, on cars I've had in the past, the VIN number has been stamped into the body, commonly by the driver's seat. Where are the VIN stamps on a Surf?

Secondly, the fuel gauge didn't seem to move on the test drive. No problem here as we wouldn't have used much fuel. However, it didn't move with the ignition off. I've had an Escort before that always read the fuel level regardless of whether the ignition is on or off, but most reset to zero. What should it do?

I don't want to seem rude to the seller, as he seems a straight-up no-crap guy, but I'm not going to totally trust someone who's about to make a big wedge from me.

Cheers in advance for any help.

A I think its on the bulkhead in the engine bay area

A the fuel guage stays where it is when ignition is off like the escort
