  • Techy Question

So the surf has waited until 3 days before the house move and has decided to change into a squeeky weasel. It sounds like the fan belt is slipping 2.4litre tub deisel. new head fitted 4 months ago.

Firstly can I leave it till I have moved house?

The whisling is only apparent on tick over and isnt that bad at the moment.

Secondly should I replace the belt or is there a tensioner?

Thirdly anyone know of a good garage in south birmingham or staford that will take on a service on a surf.

Many thanks for any replies and muddy christmas.

Get them to check the crankshaft pulley's all in one bit when they look at it. Just a thought, but can be pricey if it disintegrates.

              You scare monger!

They're £100 to replace, and they don't disintergrate, they just become de-bonded.

That's why I thought it was worth checking .

Old surfs never die, they just de-bond......

Just got the belts changed on the surf and the garage diagnosed a dodgy crank shaft pulley.

                  $$$$$$ great.

Look on the bright side. Firstly, I was right, which is always important . Secondly, it'll cost you about £120 to get it fixed now. If you had ignored it you could be looking at 2 grand for a new engine.

                      Cheers chap.

Milners have quote me for the crank pulley at about £100.

I am going to drop it to a garage to get it done.

My concern is that I would
                      (a) like an idea of time to do a job like this
                      (b) some idea of how to do it.

I searched a thread earlier that suggested it could be done with the rad left in but not sure on that.

Can you give us a clue as so far your advice has been 2 for 2.

                      Cheers Buddy.

Try a search on 'Harmonic Balancer'. I don't think it's a particularly big or difficult job.
