When I bought my Surf (about 2.5 years ago), I looked at a couple of Pajeros, a Bighorn, a Terrano, a Maverick and even a Disco - I didn't have any preconceived ideas so was open to anything.

What sold the Surf was the looks, the driving position, rumours of it's bombproofness and the fact that Vicki thought the Pajero "looked a bit gay with all that fussy plastic and two tone paint".

    Fair enuff!

Now, what else is it that "looks a bit gay with all the fussy plastic and two tone paint"?

my misses says they look gay too and she was glad i got the surf, took her for her first offroading trip, in the rain and the dark but she loved it and also said she prefers the surf caked in mud!!! what a top girl! means i dont have to wash it before she gets in. the best bit is she was well chuffed that i took her and her friend to their works crimbo do in it and it was filthy!! oh forgot to mention she is a doctor and some of her colleagues are propeer snobbie medics! i love being the black sheep!
it never rain it pours! glad I got the 4X4

              There's your answer!

I've had to tow Shoguns off fields before now, something the SIII Land Rover could frequently manage in 2WD

              They weren't on my list.

My mate has a long wheel base Paj - same year as my 2nd gen.

                  My hates.....
                  1. Turning circle is completely $$$$.
                  2. Indicator position is so far up and back I have to take hand off wheel to operate it
                  3. The 2.8 TD is a bit gutless
                  4. Rear storage area is much smaller
                  5. Roughtrax don't do parts for it
                  6. Not keen on driving position.

Not driven it off road yet so can't comment on that.

Nearly bought a 2.8 exceed, champaine over green, looked ok in the picture but not so good in the flesh, aint driven one so dont know the difference in that respect but the surf's (2nd gen) got the edge on looks, nabour just got a bighorn and it looks to squarish, its a 3.1 tdi intercooler and it dont seem to go any better than my 2.4

Must admit though, I was looking longingly at an old rundown fire engine body
setup type white Landy today. (With a hydraulic front winch fitted to boot).

Never driven a paj but we've got an L200 at work, I got it stuck on a grass verge!!!! Oh yes and it's only got about 15000 on the clock and the ECU light comes on every time it rains and it couldnt pull the skin off a rice pudding. Just my personal oppinion, it's a load of cr*p.
