  • So what is wrong with Shoguns / Pajeros

Just wondering why there seems to be a dislike of these vehicles by Surf owners?

I’ve used both Toyotas and Mitsubishis out in Africa and none gave any trouble. I chose the Surf as it was the second 4x4 I’d been to look at (first was a Jeep Cherokee- that was uncomfortable). I do like the lower roof height of the Surf as it makes this 4x4 less top heavy…. But I still have a great deal of respect for any Japanese 4x4.
Mine WAS a 150 bhp V6 and ran on PETROL

Someone will come along and say something about fuel efficiency, build quality, handling etc etc. When it comes to it though, they're the enemy - pure and simple.

I think you're leaning against an open door there, asking opinions about Pajeros on a Toyota forum !

I've driven both and prefer the Surf thats all, it's more car like to drive, where as the Paj feels more like a sluggish but comfortable van!

The feul economy is painful, lego sets are built better and they handle like a 2 tonne bag of sand, otherwise a great motor

I was thinking of a more diplomatic answer than Sancho's.

Try towing up a hill in a paj, my 2.4 was towing much better than my mates paj 2.8 TDi, we did several trailer runs back in the summer, clearing up from a youth camp and the paj really was strugglin at times, up and over hills etc.

Also my surf goes so much better off road, especially in the wet. It might just be the difference between road tyres and mud terrains, but i'm sure the surf wasn't that bad before i changed the tyres.

Other than that it's like sancho says, they're the enemy

Could it be that they just don't/can't build em like they used too.....& they resemble L/R too much..... Ugly

i go offroading with a load of paj's and they are perfectly capable, some simple mods make all the difference. if i needed to shift 7 people i would have bought a paj ove the surf. but personally i prefer the looks of the second gen surf.

mainly its purely comedy value if we take the pi$$ out of anything, especially landys....
