Wouldn't mind a second opinion, I'm going to leave the viewing until tomorrow, hoping to get to it between 12 and 1 pm if that's convenient. I've not rang him yet so I'll post here later when I have asked him a few more questions, I am going to tell him I suspect it may have overheating / head problems and will be testing it , see if that puts him off or if he owns up, if he insists its all fine or has receipts for a modified head I'll go ahead with the viewing at least.,

Thanks to all for the advice / replies

Just rang the bloke selling the Surf, and what do you know, it's had a new cylinder head about 6 months ago, the head was supplied by a local engineering firm in castleford ( Lockwoods I think he said ) for £600 and his "mate" fitted it for him. sounds a bit suspect to me as he says he's also fitted an extra electric fan with a manual over-ride switch , just in case ?. He's ringing back at 8.00 with the phone number of the firm that supplied the cylinder head so I can ask them if it's a modified one. He says it will stay on tickover for any length of time without any problems, but alarm bells are ringing now I think I should give this one a miss.

Now if he said it was a Stevo's head then that would be a differant kettle of fish

Lockwood engineering are just about the specialists in castleford for new heads head testing etc, supplied me with a new head for a citroen i had top blokes. as long as its been fitted correctly then it should be ok, but i aint no expert, did actually see it being driven two days ago, looked quite nice, anyways theres loads of surfs out there good luck

Gave upon the red one after drawing the cash out of the bank on Friday , paid it back in Monday and then last night spotted one for sale on here , 3.0td , about 10 miles from me , so will be looking at that in the near future
