                          I had to research such devices for work, we were buying a few....

                          Anyhow..

                          There are many nice units out there but a main factor is the mapping data. There are two companies supplying map data for these units Teleatlas and Navtiq (I think) Tom tom use telealtas Garmin the other... I am lead to believe in the uk Navtiq data is superior... certainly in Ireland here TOM TOM's are useless outside major towns we had to buy Garmins But I am unsure how good their european mapping is..

                          other thoughts... I really like the garmin Nuvi it looks good in a truck, but its the size of a pack of cards and is battery powered... so on holiday say park up in say ....Paris.. remove the Nuvi tell it to remember where you parked... get it to navigate you way around town on foot and get it to take you back to where you parked....
