  • God................what have I done ?

Well, Ive always been convinced that my surf was sluggish off the mark, heavy vehicle an all that. So I was trawling thro the Aus forum looking for a little more inspiration, when I came across a thread describing a fuel pump adjustment.
Goes like this........theres a black disc at the rear top of the pump with a (rusty) thimble on top, pull off (ooh er) the thimble, loosen the locknut & turn the screw about 1/8-1/4 turn clockwise.......so I did !
    WOW what a difference !
The bus is almost sprightly pulling away, and the boost flies up !
From what I can make out this little screw cranks up the mixture, so it will be interesting to see what effect it has on fuel cons, Ive always felt mine was bad because it was working too hard to maintain reasonable performance......I guess we'll see !
    See pics of screw

This sounds interesting, mine's as sluggish as hell so this might be worth a tweak, (if i can find it) i suppose it's worth marking the original position so ya can put it back where it was if things dont work out,

Aaaah thats another thing, it was dark when I tried it but it was never an issue, to the point you wondered why it didnt.

just wondering do you have a 2.4? mine is sluggish but not unexpected! but any free mods to get it shifting a bit quicker would be good! waiting for the funds to fit an intercooler
it never rain it pours! glad I got the 4X4

Be careful though. With a diesel engine, more fuel = more heat = more stress on the cooling system.

                Be very carefull mate.

On my Military truck forum a lot of the guys turn up the fuel pumps to get more power. But they do this using a pyro at the turbo end. Something to do with EGT.

Well two days on and all is well, no black smoke, super smooth, boost hardly drops between gear changes (auto), makes me think this is how it should have been all along, spesh with the intercooler.
I even find i have to lay off the throttle as it just wants to go, which was never heard of before, its even running a tad cooler...only a tad mind !

It was more of a trawle thro really, I had a read and took what I needed, I also bypassed the little butterfly in the throttle body, but that didnt seem to make much difference. heres the Aus link
