I advise also not messing with it unless you are able to monitor variables such as boost and EGT. It's not something you can go at "willy nilly".

Do not mess with it! if you dont listen to this warning you will be sorry... It lead to mine needing a full seal kit from leaks and resetting on a bench with pressure machine (cant be set any other way). it is the fuel flow controle valve that sets the pressure that the fuel runs at, even a little turn alters it allot. as the injectors run on a set pressure it is unwise to mess with it. I got rid of one that I did mess with.. it took ages and ages to get it near right but was never bang on. but hey...its up to you :POriginally posted by 71royston View Postinteresting reading!!! this screw thingy is it the boost compensator or a fuel mix adjustment screw?

[QUOTE=POPEYE;714793]turns!! (kidding as well)
The "Aus" site is great for these mods, good write-ups and pics, re the EGR if you dont fancy actually removeing it all and blanking off the inlet and exhaust ports it was attached to, you can just do the cable tie on the small vac pipe, that stops it working (assumeing it still works) theres some pics on here somewhere, look for the "ball bearing" mod, some bloke was actually selling this ball bearing on ebay listed as a "stop that black smoke" modification
all you did after buying the ball was take the pipe off and shove the ball up it, when all you need do is bend it over and cable tie it closed,
lol, my EGR was blanked along time ago, the skin on my knuckles has just about regrown!
will leave the washer gate, i have seen how much troubkle washergate caused in America!
My main direction is V8, just waiting for the funds to aquire the engine and rebuild it. got a nice little workspace set up ready for it.

I don't know if it's normal but mine is the sameOriginally posted by Diesel Turbo View Postwhen I took it off to do the glows I noticed oily residue in the pipe to the EFi box, not oil as such but black moist stuff with a sort of oily feeling if you get me ?
so what you think about the turbo, is it normal?

thanks Popeye, I really like the inter-cooler but as I hear it you have to increase the exhaust too?
I have one of them black smoke kits from eBay lol, its not just a ball bearing, its a micro computer built into a tiny metal ball lol.
I don't want to tweak the turbo as want to get it tested, when I took it off to do the glows I noticed oily residue in the pipe to the EFi box, not oil as such but black moist stuff with a sort of oily feeling if you get me ?
Like you I am going to take the hit on the injectors, going to get new and found ones for £200 for 4. sound right? but not until next month, I like this surf as its a vehicle that seems to like being played with, nothing to do with why I named mine fanny lol.
looking at another lower rad too, so will have water and air cooler so can boost a bit safely
so what you think about the turbo, is it normal?

washering out the gate, you just fit washers somewhere between 2-4mm thich (in total) behing the three bolts on the gate (front of the turbo with the actuator rod fitted to it) supposed to increase the boost and engage the turbo earlier, (i noticed sod all difference tho)
loads of info here re the intercooler, basicly all it is is a rad (useually alloy) piped between the turbo and the inlet, cools the air between the two, cooler air being dence'er better bang in the cylinder, for top mounted i reccoment a fan and hood scoop but you can front mount em in the head on wind area but the drawbace is the lenghts or tubeing you need, this extra lenght can give turbo-lag but lets face it the question is a bit moot on these mobile bricks anyway,
for top mount a body lift certainly make things easier an was essential for the sodding great rad i had to fit,
tweeking the compensator! i did 6 clicks clockwise (looking down at it,) wouldn't chance any more than that, result is slightly better acceleration at the expence of useing a bit more fuel, that actually did make a difference,
only thing left i wanna do is new injectors but i been saying that for six years

Thanks it was hell to move it 1 click at a time but it got there after a billion clicks...it seemed.Originally posted by POPEYE View PostWasher out the turbo dump gate, remove the EGR, 2" body lift and an intercooler, to name but a dozen
Anyway well done for getting it back to where it was, Javers is still trying
Thanks for mod tips, could you break down and explain what they do please?
Also how to do it right lol
cheers
