  • BBC and Bio Fuels

Just found an article where the BBC do actually cover (albeit briefly as far as cars are concerned) the use of Bio Fuels.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programme...ch/6146580.stm

Interesting to note from that article that a fishing vessel emits nearly 20 times as much CO2 during a 10 day trip as a car does in a full year. What you got to say about that you anti-car eco-warriors?

    "fishing vessel"??

i bet that upsets the fishermen as much as 4x4s are "Gas guzzlers"

The first one obviously. After all, you'll need a 4x4 to get it up and down the launch ramp, and to tow it home with the huge number of fish you caught.

Out of interest, does anyone know how much veg compares to diesel in terms of CO2 production? Is it actually any cleaner?

            Veg oil is carbon neutral.

When you look at the full cycle, veg-oil doesn't produce any CO2. The reason being that the plants that go to making the veg-oil take the CO2 out of the atmosphere in the first place.

Dino-diesel releases Carbon that has been locked away for millennia.

Wish we could lock the wingeing Numpties away for millennia

Everything's carbon neutral in the end though innit?

I was just wondering if there was a level beyond the old carbon neutral argument where veg was actually producing less CO2 anyway.

                        {Non science type person answering, so don't take as gospel}

I think in terms of the combustion in the engine, there is not much in it, they both chuck out about the same.

However, all the Carbon in Dino-Diesel has been locked away and removed from 'circulation' as it were, so any that is returned by combustion is bad.

Only a proportion of the carbon removed from the atmosphere by plants is converted into plant oil (the rest makes bits like stems, leaves etc), so I would guess that assuming the residual bio-mass (the above mentioned stems, leaves etc) aren't just burned off as waste then the whole cycle promotes the removal of carbon from the atmosphere.

Or I might be talking bull-plop.

can you deduct the number of trees you own from your carbon allowance?

I'm getting my surf MOT'd tommorrow and I run on 50/50 this time of year. I will ask Mr MOT to give me the readings from his gas analizer to see what my emmisions are like and post on here!

Jaky, last year mine was well under 1, just over half a % @ 0.54 on Dino, if your on 50/50 ya probably nearer a quarter % 0.25 or there abouts & looking for a Rebate ...........
