Recall, again!

I'm new to the recall bit, just assumed they would have lost interest in a car of this age and being an import. Do you just ring the local dealer and ask for it to be checked , is the whole process free of charge , thanks in advance,

Hi , phoned my local Toyota dealer today regarding recall, They asked my name, address, tel number, then reg no, said they would ring back, just before they hung up they asked chasis number, I started KZN130-900*** before I'd even got to the end of the number they said, no its fine , it definately does not need a recall, have I been fobbed off , or is that right.
BTW , I tried the toyota GB number given above and it goes straight to fax

They may be right, as not all Surfs are affected by the re-call.
