  • Supercharger??

I like my Surf again, now it steers and doesn't sound like it's going to blow up any minute, so I'm thinking about making it a bit more 'mine'.

Having bought it on the basis that it's (relatively) fast and makes a good noise, one of the first things I was thinking about is making it go faster and make a nicer noise.

I was thinking along the lines of a supercharger and/or new exhaust. Any views on this? In terms of price (and, I suspect, usefulness), the order of the available options seems to go:

    1) Weird pipe thing that goes in the air intake and creates a 'vortex'
    2) K&N Induction kit
    3) Electric supercharger
    4) Proper supercharger

To be honest, I'm tempted to go for the proper supercharger (I think there's a TRD one that will go on my engine alright) and a dirty great big twin exhaust but I'm guessing I'm looking at over a grand for that, not being any good at that sort of thing myself. Is it worth it? Any thoughts anyone?

A good upgrade is ditching the manifolds and crossover pipe, do a Google for Downey or NWOR headers.

Rumour has it that you need a 2" body lift to make fitting easier. I don't know how well they fit on a right hand drive truck though.

Didn't you say you have to pull the engine out to get to that end of things?

Would it stop if from getting so f*cking hot inside if the manifolds went?

Any chance of ditching the whole exhaust and just having a chrome pipe sticking out the top like on an artic? Snorkel up one side, exhaust up the other....

TRD Supercharger... hmmmm... always designed for a right hand drive... TRD might also do an exhaust... if not, try Cusco... if all else fails.... try a custom build... they aren't that pricey...

If you not reusing it you can cut it out. Plus thats the job of the body lift to give you more room

Yup, its move the heat from behind the dash, but you'll have an extra pipe under your feet.

You'd need a pipe up each side, and a snorkel in the middle!!

              Supercharger last then? Boooo.

Oh well, it's going on its annual trip to the alps at the end of December. If it behaves itself, I'll treat it to a nice induction kit and shiny exhaust around MOT time.

hi sancho,if you go the supercharger way,you will be looking at head and piston work to lower the compression ratio.or you will end up blowing head gaskets and melting pistons, but it will be an awsome machine after its done, gofor it.

2 head gaskets (per head) should do the trick!! (works on fords!!)

My cars been a different place since the bodylift - much cooler place to be.

There is a debate on the Lexus website about letric chargers - http://lextreme.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6579

If you're going the custom exhaust route, why not fit a pair of smallish turbo chargers, pushing air through a nice centre mount intercooler, and go v.v.fast????????? Lowish tech and they sap less power than a blo0dy massive supercharger.

My understanding is that this particular engine kind of eats head gaskets anyway....

On the cheap and easy stuff, is this b0llocks or what?

I'm kind of thinking a bit of pipe that added 35bhp that easily would probably be installed in the factory if it actually worked.

What about twin turbos, an intercooler and exhaust pipes running up the a-pillars? Is that MOTable? I am only half joking, it would look hilarious.
