heated mirrors ?

Bit of a frost the other morning and i noticed when i switched on rear
defroster my side mirrors defrosted and started to give off steam
and were quite warm to the touch. this has never happened before
in the two and a half years ive owned it does anyone know of a temp sensor in the mirror that might switch the heated mirrors on ?

that only happens to me when i get in the mondeo... not too many surfs with heated mirrors. it was discussed before and i think it was a "winter pack" option.
