With engine running, the 'v' in the ohms law equation will be (roughly) 14.4, hence 520/14.4 = an engineering approximate of 'about 40 amps'

Worst case scenario, though, you could end up dragging 44.1 amps through
that wiring, working on your minimum safe battery voltage. It's a large risk
for the sake of shaving a millimetre off the cable thickness. (BTW, I.T ain't
my official trade. It's just that a couple of customers found out that I admin
*nix systems, so nagged until I gave in). I normally avoid I.T like the
plague.

sounds really sad). It's just so hard to find good connectors from general
distributors, be nice to see a good quality one for a change.

The connector will be from RS, probably a bayonet type, if I can slip it past them in a big order next time someones building a loom.

I may need to order a pack of anti surge cartridge fuses from them soon.
(Ordered the wrong ones last time, so have to see how long these quick
blows survive). If so, I'll let you dig the order code out. Searching
through five catalogues always puts me in braindead mode.

Think they're around £30 per mating half, but we often buy these things by the hundred so it may be easier to lose. I'll let you know what I order though. Very nice connectors. If they can survive life on tanks and helicopters being mishandled by squaddies, they can probably survive my truck.

Cheers. Each time I start looking in the RS catalogue, without the exact part
in mind that I need, well, you know what it's like. Half an hour later, even less
idea which one to get. Too much of a selection can be as bad as not enough.
