Why are 'WE' Better ?

OK now without using too many sweeping stetements and swearwords , can anyone shed any light why our Surfs are so much better off road than the Landies and disco's and alike ?

We are having a debate in our office , and I don't know enough about the subject.

We have already gone over Reliability and costs etc.

But cant explain to the guys why those disco's at the pit got stuck , and my surf runing on road slicks just cruised around !(Nearly! )

I think we have got more ground clearance than the disco.
But the main point is Because we said so

Yep we got more ground clearence as standard than Shoguns, Paj's and landy's. More low down grunt than the others and better 4wd capabilities.
Also our tweed jackets, flat cap, wellies and walking cane don't foul up the controls oh and my surf ain't done the school run.

It's because the Surf is designed for action ( well all those Afghans must have some reason for using them !!!! ) and not just poncing around Chelsea

It may also have somthing to do with the driver
because standrovers have a so called known history of off-roading the owners just get in and go without engaging BRAIN
where as we tend to look at the problem first and have gained confidence and trust in our beasties and know how to handle it.
apart from that I agree with Koi and the fact that WE ARE BETTER COS WE SAY SO.

Those Afghans will make good use of the electric rear window,handy for taking pot shots at anyone trying to follow them.

You'll never see me in a LR if a Toyota is available, but it has to be said.........

They arn't, a standard Disco will outwheel a standard Surf on the same tyres everytime. Live axles have more ground clearance then a Surfs front IFS in the ruts, and more articulation will let it get much more crossaxle movement in holes.

Don't confuse a bad driver with a bad car, most LR owners have a sticker on the back that say's 'best 4x4xfar' and they think thats all it takes to conquer the rainforests!

Thanks for all the info guys. The lads in the office are all now convinced and maybe some of them will come over from the dark side and trade in for a surf ! Thanks again .

In an equal world the Disco should walk all over the Surf, Solid front axle etc.

However.

1. The Disco Diesel engine is a big Dogs T**D of an engine unless it's the 300TDI.
2. The Ground clearance on the standard disco is rubbish plus those side steps are an absolute joke.
3. The suspension is too soft, it absorbs the ruts too much and allows it to ground out where a Surf would ride over.
4. Most Discos have terrible tyres on them, most are road going cars.
5. Permanant 4WD makes the drivers arrogant and think that a good off roader will make up for a bad driver - the driver is still the most important thing. Some really good drivers could probably get a Subaru Imprezza around the pit even with no ground clearance. It's all about picking the line.

Plus the most important point.

The Surf is better because it's a Surf!!
