I had to do the same when I bought mine a couple of months ago - it already had an alarm & central locking but no immoboliser

Cost me £141 inc VAT & had to send the insurance co (A-Plan) a certificate to say it had been fitted

Apparently the reason they insist on it for the Surf when they didn't for the Disco I had before is nothing to do with it being an import - the Disco has them factory fitted

They probably thought a 2" spring lift was a very expensive stereo.

Ok, my new immobiliser arrived this morning and it does have a certificate with it. The problem is an authorised fitter must sign off on it and stamp the certificate before i send it
              Will keep you posted...

Very true and seeing as most of us aren't sharing our age with Yoda our insurance require a little more dosh.

my surf actually cost me £6 less a year than my k reg astra 1.6i van . went through churchills as well fully comp £234 and im in the motor trade!
i did have to obtain a certificate for the immobiliser tho, so i took it to my local ice/ alarm install company they checked it over and for £15 gave me a shiny new certificate!! im even more pleased my renewal dropped by £16 too

Thats good to know. My only worry was whoever i asked to certificate the system would refuse on the basis that i hadn't bought one of their devices.
