Sorry Kenny - Tony's been inundated recently and Herts is a bit far to be able to just pop round and have a look. Still we should have replied and for that I appologise!

Good luck with the new truck!

Just wanna say THANK YOU to everyone who has answered my posts in here, I appreciated all your comments and with all your good advice in mind.........

I have put a deposit on a loverly looking Surf at Four Track Cars in Hertfordshire.

I burrowed my GF's car today and trundled my way down the M1 from Nottingham, and after a quick spin on the M25 found my self in deepest rural Hertfordshire and being greeted by Gary the owner of Four Track Cars.

I test drove two of his Surfs and decided I liked one so i took the plunge and put the old deposit down.

Have a look guys and tell me what you think?
        http://fourtrackcars.com/Page026.htm

The one I am going for is a 1995" Toyota Surf 3.0 SSRX Turbo Diesel Auto Limited Edition for the sum of £4,995. I noticed during my inspection that the Exhaust box was rusted and would need replacing so I got the dealer to throw in a brand new Exhaust incl fitting. It comes freshly Registered with the DVLA (on a M PLate), 12 months MOT, Six months Road Fund Licence and a 3 month Warrenty that I can extend should I wish (for a nice fee of course) Oh, and the Timing belt has just been changed (the old one was there as proof)

So, Do I BIMTA check it or not (the dealer said that the DVLA checks its not stolen with interpol???)

Do I get the RAC to inspect it (I e-mailed Tony of 4x4 toys and asked if he would take a look (for what ever fee he saw fit) but he never replied).

Once I get the Surf home, should I get all the fluids changed? Have it Serviced and checked.

Have it under sealed (anyone know who does this)?

        Have a Cat 1 or a Cat 2 alarm fitted ?

OK, OK, I know you guys have posted me some great advice in the past but I just wanna make sure I do everything right so my chosen Surf is looked after well.

Thanks all and look forward to reading your replies.
        Congratulations Kenny !!!!!
Got mine from there 5 years ago, I never looked back.
        Good Luck
        Jesse

DVLA won't find any records of past history as its an import and Interpol don't do cars. Fugitves, terrorism, high tech crimes, human trafficking, drugs etc you get the picture.
OOOOoooooh so should alarm bells start to ring maybe?

Below is a direct "cut n paste" from an e-mail I had from the dealer

          >Hi, Regards your questions,
          >I give a 3 month standard warranty, or you can purchase a longer warranty >if required.
          >Some cars may have auction sheets. some may not.
          >All cars will have a timing belt change + service.
          >I do not belong to Bimta, used to, but like many other importers have left.
          >All cars are checked by the DVLA, with Interpol before reg.
          >Why not come and have a look at some cars, to see the condition yourself.
          > Regards Gary

            Hey Linda,

Nah don't worry about it - I was not having a dig. Tony seems so highly thought of that I would have been surprised if he had not been busy. Of course a down side of a man who knows his stuff is that he will be very much in demand.

Well, it's kind of the middle of the night, but it depends on how fussy you want to be. It wouldn't personally bother me if it didn't have all the BIMTA stuff because it's coming from an established dealer who has no interest in selling knocked off cars. As far as I'm concerned, it's registered and I very much doubt the Japanese police are heading this way.

You may be more concerned than I would be and that's entirely your choice. I would expect a degree of bull$hit from any dealer and Koi's already said that the guy has seemed OK in the past so I wouldn't get too worried. See what other paperwork's available and always remember the old adage:

nah, get it done and enjoy your motor. as already said doubt if the Japanese police are gonna come all this way for 35,000,000 yen. You can get bimta done and as said if he really strongly objects the nealk away. Theres 2 or 3 on here who have previously bought from him with no complaints, so enjoy.

Cant BIMTA check - no way

OK So I start to fill out the online BIMTA check request form and it ask's for the date that the Surf was first registered in Japan and it wants it in the dd/mm/yy format.

I e-mail and ask the dealer for the date but he says he only knows the month and year but NOT the date it was first registered in Japan but with out the full info I cant BIMTA check it!!!

I in a bit of a bind here now guys - what would you do?
