  • refurbishing alloys

Hi all i've bought a 3rd gen a couple of weeks ago and i'm very pleased with it, far better motor than i had thought!!!
The alloys unfortunatly are a little tatty and i would like to refurb or replace them with a better cond set (must be standard 3rd gen!).
Anyone no of a good company that refurb alloys and any idea on prices??
Once i sort the alloys i'm thinking of getting some bfg tyres fitted alll round
I've had the surf fully serviced/checked over by tonyn yesterday (cheers tony great job!) and i'm looking forward to trying a little offroading sometime soon

It cost around £40 per wheel for a re-furbish, don't know of any companies near you though.

Some one on this site has refurbished their alloys by stripping the laquer off and polishing the bare alloy. Maybe they can explain what procedure they used.

just been mucking around with my ally's , got a sand blaster takes a long time (tedious ) and leaves the ally's dull, have tried nitromors seems to work but a messy job seems to leave a shine on it when laquer comes off .
may take wheels to tyre place tomorrow to take off tyres then play around some more ,may spray them once there stripped

Can you tell us exactly how you acheived that finish and how much time/hard work was involved? Did you remove the tyres first?

Left the tyres on, but removed wheels from truck.

It took about one and a half to two hours on each wheel, (I did one per evening) using these products in the order shown.........

Powder coating might be an option i will look into the cost/procedure/finish.

Find out where the local shops take the alloys for redoing. They will be able
to bead/sand blast them and apply whatever finish you please.

apparently it's called 'media blasting' these days, and they used crushed walnut shells.

I used to work for a dealership, the used car sales department used a company called Spit & Polish for years & the results were always good.
