  • Sorted now - thanks

    Hi

For my insurance I have to send them a letter saying I have a Thatcham category 2 fitted.

    Where can I get one

So far tried Halfords, who sent me to police station, who sent me to Toyota garage, who have now suggested the left hand drive centre

Any ideas before I just get sent somewhere else

Has the car got an alarm fitted? If not then you need one if you go to a place who specialise in them they will have no problem issueing you with one. If you still have no luck then let me know cos i have one for mine!!!!!!

you normally get the cert when it is fitted . do you know who fitted it ? .
have you tried a alarm fitter to see if he will check it out and the give you a cert

        Hi

Yes, it has one already fitted - I'm not sure but I think the previous owner fitted it

So I need an alarm specialist then?

i would say so . my ins comp never asked for mine .they just asked if a alarm was fitted. no proof was asked for .
have you asked the previous owner as a cert comes in the box it just needs filling in

I thought Philip was the previous owner?

Why can't you just give him a call?

a cat 2 is only an immobiliser... take it to a car alarm fitter and they should be able to certify it.

if not, you can get a new certified cat2 fitted for under £100

You're welcome. Thought It'd be nice to help someone else for a change rather than pestering for info and advice all the time!

I asked him, he didn't know what it was, just he went somewhere local and asked for a alarm to be fitted for his insurance and they fitted it, then he took it somewhere else and they took it out and refitted it properly!!!

                      How's the rear window?

Up. That's about all the good news. I just hooked the motor up to the battery in the end. I think my neighbours probably got a bit concerned when they could just see me sat in the boot with a battery on my lap, a jump lead in each hand and a few sparks flying around.

I managed to get that connector I could see under the glass re-connected. All that did was melt and make a lot of smoke so I guess you were right and it had been disconnected deliberately

At least I know it wasn't the motor. I'll have a look for any obviously broken wires but smoke seems to be the common feature in anything involving me and Surf electrics so I won't be getting too involved. It may be on it's way back to you at some point. There's a couple of other little niggles that could do with sorting before the new season starts and I head off to the Alps again anyway.

Bit of a pain in the arse really. Other than being about 400 degress in the cabin by the time I got home (and the aircon doesn't work), I was going to report a long journey at full speed being succesfully completed without incident.

Took it to the place today & he has to find out more info as he doesn't think it is a cat2

Where is cheapest place if I have to get one as he quoted £120
