Firstly, where did you buy the 'starter pack' and how much was it, and secondly you mentioned that the reason you replaced the contacts was that the starter was 'clicking'. My starter has just started to 'click' when you turn the key, but not always. Sometimes it will click once or twice and then start and another time it will start straight away. When it 'clicks' that is all it does, it does'nt even try to turn the engine, but when it does start it 'jumps' into life as if nothing was ever wrong, is this an obvious sign of bad contacts or could something else be causing the problem? Thats your contacts mate. I got the kit from Toyota, the part numbers you can see on the photo's for a 3.0lt starter. The whole lot cost around £30. I didn't bother with the method mentioned above and I haven't had any problems, but then I didn't know about using a block of wood. The worst that can happen is the contacts will wear out quicker. Even if it lasts 2-3 years I will be happy. Better than being stranded.

Thank you. I have just ordered one from 'Roughtrax' Milners don't do them, only new complete motors. It was a bit more than £30 but it does include the plunger, so i was told, and with VAT and postage it came to £47
Am i really looking forward to doing this ???

It would have been cheaper going to your Toyota dealer £35.25 for the lot
ie. both contacts and the plunger.

          Mate, you got robbed.

I got both sets of contacts for £6.42+vat each and the plunger for £12.91+vat from a Toyota main dealer, £30.26 Inc VAT. It doesn't always pay to buy pattern parts or parts from another party as they have to make their slice!!

I did a bit more home work on the price of these starter motor kits and have done as TALIESINS has suggested an cancelled my order with Roughtrax and ordered just the 2 contacts from Toyota's for the grand total of £18. Pick them up tomorrow. Thanks to M35A2 for supplying the part numbers, made ordering alot easier.

No worries mate. Glad you got to cancel before you got the parts. All you have to do now is do the job.

GLAD thats done, not something i would like to do every day. As mentioned above ,the hardest part was getting the motor off, but after a bit of blood, sweat and bad language she came out. The rest was easy, BUT, i have a small promlem. Can anyone tell me where the pictured 'BIT' goes. I dont know what it is or where it came from, i may have disturbed some thing but i can't work out where it goes ?? At the moment it is just floating around on 2 or 3 small tubes, it can't go far as the tubes are quite short.
While i am on the subject of where things go, can any one tell me what the small round plastic thing is. It sits almost under the large air pipe going from the air filter. It has 2 small tube nozzles to take small pipes, one of which may connect to a small nozzle on the inlet manifold. Any ideas.

I'm not 100% sure, but it looks like someone has done a repair job on the turbo pressure sensor, as the small rubber hoses can get brittle and crack.

Need a wider angle pic to see better.
