  • Off topic (again :D): Townace

Another of my random trips down completely irrelevant lane. Would
anyone happen to know if the Townace's suffer from dodgy heads, or
if a head gasket is actually generally more likely just a case of replacing
the head gasket and not the head, if they throw a wobbler on the cooling
    front?

    Cheers.

Can't remember if its the Townace or Estima but one of them uses the same 2.4 as the Surf
Say not always what you know, but always know what you say.

Don't know about the engines, but the window motors on the townace/liteace are the same as the surf!

Does that mean the Estima and Townace/Liteace's uses the same engine
line? Just going to have a look at that link you posted, Vince.

I installed a remote alarm system in my mates dads Estima and I noticed the dash clocks are the same as the Surf too.

You'll notice a lot of similarity... townaces are also know as pregnant surf's...

Most dealers that do servicing on surfs also do townaces... a tremendous amount of similarity....

Just wondering 'cos been looking at some, (having a bugger of a time trying
to find parts for the Venture, Toyota 2Y engine, with it being a South African),
and taken quite a liking to the Townace, especially the ones with the two
swivel seats behind the front seats. Noticed a couple of them going dirt cheap
with a supposed head gasket problem, but being a 2.4 owner, had an inkling
it might not be that simple. So, I have two choices. Replace the Venture
with the Gypsy, if I can get the wife to finally give in, as it would be for her use
more than mine, and use the Surf if I get collared into taking them out
somewhere, (due to not being able to fit three people and a car seat in that), or
replace it with something like the Townace so that I can keep the wife and kids
                  banned out of the Surf.

                    Isn't the 2.2 Townace a petrol?

The ones that I've been looking at are the 2.0L diesel auto's.

The middle one of these three is one example.

My sister-in-law had a Toyota Enema 2.4TD and the head went.

Been looking at that forum Vince mentioned, and these mpv's do seem to
suffer even more overheating issues than the Surf's.

With regards to the Gypsy, taking the wife to look at it on tuesday. Does anyone
think she'll accept that it would be a suitable runabout for her and the kids?
What can I say, I'm scr*ping the bottom of the persuasion tactics barrel.

They probably overheat more 'cos the engine is tucked under the front more than the Surf, and the under bonnet heat can't escape so well.

Imagine the temp paranoia level if driving one of those. I think I'd end up
                              being a gibbering wreck.

Do you think the wife'll want/take to driving in a vehicle cab like this?
