  • Refirb for Alloys...

I've been thinking of getting my alloys re-chromed [or whatever it is they do to them], and was wondering if anyone out there has had this done. The lacquer on mine is starting to bubble up but I like them and don't want to get rid...

    Cheers,

    Shab.

I used to work for a Land Rover & Jaguar dealership & they used a mobile company called "Spit & Polish", there are other companies too. Basically they mask up the tyres & refurb your wheels either at home or when your at work. I seem to remember it was a pretty good job & our sales department were very fussy on the workmanship & I don't think they were ever dissatified with the finish. The other alternative is to go to an Alloy wheel company, where they remove your wheels & they send them away for refurb, but you will have to be without your Surf & it will be on axle stands for about a week which is not ideal. But I think they probably come back good as new & I think they charged about £40 per wheel which is quite expensive. Regards Lewis

Unless you happen to know where the shops send them and deal directly.
I'm fortunate in the fact that we have a place in Barnsley that does this. We
may not have much in the way of suppliers, but trades we cover aplenty.

If you have a local company that does bead/sand blasting, check with them.
They are likely to do it or know exactly who does.

thers a place in birmingham does it 'while you wait'- drop it off first thing, have a lovely day out in town, while they take the tyres off. blast and respray the wheels, bake and refit, then pick it up later...only trouble is whats there to do in birmingham?
        it's in me shed, mate.

Thanks chaps, I've looked about and £40 -50 seem to be the going rate. One site said they used powder-coat? If I could find the same alloys they probably wouldn't be much dearer new but I think they may be OEM's [five spoke with rivets around the rim].

Thanks Bush. I think you should change your name to "Mr Link"! There doesn't seem to be a post that you can't find a link for; perhaps you could start a new career as a researcher....

Doin mine meself cos i'm not rich like you guys, Got a tin of nitromors, plasticote clear laquer and silver (for the inside rim) today with masking tape and some odds and sods just over £20, I think powder coating gives you a silver/grey finish doe'nt it? just going to strip the old laquer off, polish em up,
degrease em and apply clear laquer!
