It's not a dig as such, just an observation. It's the prats
who drive stupidly that want slapping.

Apparently there's an article in the Independent this morning about big, bad 4x4's. Our local radio were going on about it - had to turn it off - it was ruining my blood pressure

If it's not a 'dig', why were they concentrating on 4x4s?

There seems to be a concentrated campain against 4x4s its just one thing after another! I've seen more cabby's and truckers useing phones while driveing than 4x4 drivers, and especially van drivers,Like most of these "polls" its based on observations
of a small section of the populace and never give a true picture,

              This is interesing......

The study monitored more than 38,000 cars and almost 3,000 four-wheel drive vehicles at three busy sites in Hammersmith, west London

Vehicles were observed weekdays for one hour each in the morning, afternoon, and early evening
So the survey saw more than 38,000 cars, and less than 3000 4x4's. Kinda blows the 'ever increasing amount of 4x4s blocking up the city' theory out of the water.

Less than 8% of rush hour traffic is 4x4's.

Hate to argue for, but they are specifically emphasising the
people, not the vehicle. The theory they point out, which is
the machismo effect, cannot, as a rule, come from driving
in a small car, so obviously is more apparent in larger vehicles.
Also, being done in London, the observation is more likely to
see domestic users rather than commercial users, thereby
reducing the number of larger vehicles being van based.

As i was trying to point out, the di*kheads who drive like gits
will always drive like gits regardless. They should be shaf*ed,
and it should not be the vehicles that are picked up on. It was,
                however, a perfectly plausible observation.

As far as I remember, roadspace is measured in two dimensions, not three.

My Surf may be a lot taller than the Mondeo across the road, but how much more roadspace does it actually cover? I know the 109" Land Rover (that's the LWB one) was actually shorter AND narrower than my neighbour's Honda Civic, yet I don't hear cries of "Japanese coupés blocking up the city".

                  And those Mondeos are huuugggeee.
