XP seems to do quite a good job of auto recognising USB devices. I recently installed a multi card reader thingy (does SD, CF, Sony stick, etc) and after a couple of minutes of thinking all the drives appeared in My Computer without any cds. There was a cd included but it was only for use with W98. Also, I've never had to load software to support a usb camera so I think you should be ok.Roger
