My Surf wont reverse anymore and after checking some threads on here and speaking to some gearbox specialists there appears to be no doubt that it needs a new gearbox at a total cost of about £1800.
Sadly this along with the rest I've had to spend on it in the last year is too much and I regret to say that I'm going to sell it

Can you guys let me know what you think a fair asking price is?

    91 2.4td (automatic) in green
    130,000km
    6 years full service history
Recently fitted - new radiator, new water pump, cam belt, shocks, BF Goodrich AT tyres, rear window motor, all new injectors,
Aside from the gear box problem its in excellent condition inside and out.

    Cheers

I reckon you'd get about 700 for it at a push. Probably worth at least getting a quote for a replacement gearbox. No doubt TonyN can sort ouy, only a few miles to Basingstoke from Reading.

Or just don't go backwards .

As I've said I've checked out getting it fixed but cant imagine getting it done parts and labour for less than £1500 at best which is too much. The price I was quoted was on a reconditioned box anyway and I wouldnt know where to begin trying to do the work myself even if I could find a cheap gearbox.
To someone who could do the work themself it would be a bargain.

if you do end up selling it, consider breaking it. you may well get more than the overall price... and I happen to have a 91 in green so i'm sure to have a few bits off you! ha-ha!

seriously though, good luck with it however it turns out.
I got me a new Surf baby yeah!

Give us a call on 07843 443898, i had a similar problem with my gearbox, it turned out to be a loose nut and knackered lockring on the selector mechanism cost me about 40 quid to get fixed. Ring and i'll explain how to check if it's the same thing.
