  • Question for the Veggie Users?

I've just noticed truck is very lumpy on start up. I've been using veggie in varying quantities for the last 9mths.

With the onset of hot weather, I have upped the ratio's of Oil / Derv.

I've also been using Waste Vege Oil filtered through water filters down to 5 microns.

The last fill up I did was about 45 litres Oil and topped up with about 15 litres of Diesel. I've now run that through until the fuel light started coming on when accelerating.

I've now put in 20ltrs of Diesel to give it a bit of a flush, but this is when the lumpiness started.

It's really lumpy when I start up so I am wondering what is causing it?

    My thoughts are:
    1. Fuel Filter - new when I started using veggie, now done about 5000 miles
    2. Gunk in the fuel tank being sucked into fuel lines when almost empty
    3. Injectors
    4. Too much Oil not enough Diesel?

If you have any thoughts, please let me know, and whether there are any quick fixes?

    Thanks all

    Dave

at 5000 miles i'd say fuel filter. if it was tank gunk i'd have thought the veg would have carried it into system ages ago and since you've been running it for 5000miles with no problems i'd say its got to be the filter.

BUT...I actually know very little about the use of veg, so....
i swear, it was like that when i got here...

oh, and if you're not using a fuel cat or heater then the veg mix may well be a tad too high.

Would definitely say filter. When using SVO/WVO, initially
it will lift a lot of crud from the tank. The first filter on using
oil will last a relatively short time compared to normal use.

If you are using WVO there could also be some fats bunging up the filter.

However running on SVO will also make the beast lumpy, but shouldn't when mixed at this time of year.

Given you're now on a relatively percentage of diesel (having added it to a near empty tank) its almost certainly not a ratio problem. As suggested above it could well be a filter blocking from either crud or fats from the WVO. It could also be a batch of poor diesel. Try topping up with some more from different source.
