  • rendering and goldfish....

Well, since you lot all know sooooo much about goldfish, what do you know about re-redering the outsides of victorian houses then....

I need to have the render hacked off an old victorian (er, it wouldn't be new now would it) terraced house in Plymouth. Re-render, replace soffits, fascias, gutters, prime, paint and finish...

Anyone know a ball-park figure I should be paying for such a service?

Anyone in Plymouth area want the job????

thats sounds a fair quote, re-pointing is a very labour intensive and specialist job to do properly, so I'm told.

Like the pointing it is labour intensive. Hacking off, skips, scaffolding, it wont be cheap. Like all building work....get at least 3 quotes and preferably talk to someone who has used them before.

your all right (except pops - you have not factored in the re-breathers for the goldfish -or are you expecting them to hold their breath, pop up the ladder, do a bit of skimming then nip back down for a gulp o' water and a fag every 3 mins?) about the labour, but £6000!!!!! is what i've been quoted. Well, I say I... the house is in Plymouth and looked after by my letting agent, so its all a bit out-of-touch..

Pass me those Bere-Alston boys number Tony, if they know their stucco from their spardash, I might have another job for them too......

                cheers Surfers, keep smiling.

Oi I see your posting at 06:37, did you know its a bank oliday and you dont need to go to work today .............UNLESS your creeping to the guvnor..............OHH i forgot you are the guvnor.

Back to the thread (sorry legendgamesmaster ) you could throw a "Re-render, replace soffits, fascias, gutters, prime, paint and finish party" and invite THE WHOLE forum and I am sure we could improve the house somewhat (Dont know how much Tho!!). Proberbly only cost you about 4000 gallons of Alcohol and you would end up with a loverly MUD covered house the talking pont of PLYMOUTh!

Well only it was only an Idea

well as a plasterer knowing how much of a job is involved here you will be looking at around 3-5k depending on the size of the house and the builders happiness not an easy job to be done, me if i wasnt 300 miles away id have done it all for 2k but thats cos im a soft touch
if a politition is talking its lying

For the Facias , soffits and guttering you should be looking at about £40 per meter inc labour , that's what I'd charge.

                        Andy.

Would be much easier to re-render a house in Worcester and leave the one in Plymouth to someone in Plymouth. Thats a hell of a commute. Pray tell?

well, we moved to worcester with the wifes job after travelling round the world for a year , and since we'd rented out our plymouth house while we were travelling, we continued to rent it, and bought another one in worcester.

Wifes about to apply for a job in Surry, so praps we'll get another one in the South East!!! pref without render.....

Don't know if this helps but I paid £1600 last year to have the rendering hacked off, stone plastic bead (not sand) blasted, a couple of old brick repaires replaced with stone and then the whole lot re pointed with lime and painted where apropriate. This was on a double fronted (64sq meters)sandstone cottage - money well spent as it looks miles better and got rid of the condensation.
