I tend to use BP Ultimate when I can, but then again I get mt fuel paid for. I have noticed that at low speed (up to 70) there is no difference. But on long hauls at normal speed (90) it revs slightly slower that normal. There is also no smoke.

What you should try is 3lts of tesco's VEG oil, a bottle of 8 tank treatments (in one go) diesel redex and fill up with normal diesel. This is like rocket fuel. My truck goes like sh*t off a shovel, and is better on fuel economy too. Try it and see what you think!!

Well, having recently had to fit a new one, I wonder if it could be partly down to increased combustion/octane?

I know TonyN thinks it's random, me I was sure it was a cooling thing, I went thru a car wash that gushed freezing water into the air intake. I guess I'm just looking for something to blame for blowing a head!!!
