  • Saggy Bum or Not?

I've been looking at a lot of the members photo's of their trucks, and I am beginning to wonder whether mine is suffering from Saggy Bum Syndrome.

The distance between the top of the wheel and middle point of the wheel arch is about 1 1/2 " lower at the back than the front.

Is this normal or are my rear springs all sprung out? I would have thought the measurements should be the same, but this will lift the back slightly higher than the front so the roof slopes towards the front of the truck. Correct?

Currently my roof is pretty well horizontal.

    Any thoughts?

There arn't many trucks around that don't have a saggy arse if they still have the original springs.

You want the sidesteps at least parallel to the ground, but better if the rear is slightly higher than the front (unloaded)

I don't think measuring from wheel centre to wheel arch is an accurate measure as I don't think the front and rear arches are the same height on the body anyway. Like Tony said, measure your side steps front and back to see if there is any significant difference.

Exactly. If the truck looks like it's sagging at the rear, then it most probably is.

If you look at your truck from the side you will notice that the front wheel arch is higher up the body than the rear one so the only way to check is to park on level ground and measure up to your side steps

Good idea. I'll dust off the camera and post one tomorrow. Been meaning to take sopme pictures anyway since the fogs & storage box went in, but I wanted to wait until the suspension lift had ben done and it was clean!!

Will post one tomorrow. Now where to find some flat ground?!

OK, here are a couple of pictures of my truck so you can all say whether you think it's a*se is sagging or not. There is a storage box in the boot, but this weighs only about 15kg so won't really make a difference.

I tried to get the photo as horizontal as possible. You can use the gable on the house as a reference. I've put a line parallel to the gable in the last picture to give you an idea of what the level is.

So? Saggy or Solid? You Decide.

Hard to say....Looks like its possibly just about verging on SA. I like the arse in the air slightly nose down stance that Vince (Bushwhacker) has on his.

Mine was like that until last week. I couldn't justify £400 for a lift so got some replacement coils from Roughtrax and sorted out my torsion bars on the front instead, relative to before, it's a lift of about 2" and it stopped all the bouncyness too. The original coils were actually taller placed next to the new ones but they are thinner section and as the car was lower with them on you can imagine how bouncy it was, yours no doubt the same.

Call Baz at Roughtrax he might still have a few sets for £50 that he's trying from a new supplier. Easy to fit if you can get the back end high enough off the floor.

Try some new rear springs. If this don't sort it then a 2" coil spacer from 4Crawler or Danno will!
