Best cure for screaming babies is......strap em in the baby seat of the surf and go for a drive about. The baby nods off to sleep and you get to play with your surf.

Calpol. Works every time. Calpol calpol calpol! It's the parental equivalent of a rotary cannon!

If that fails, a drive round usually gets them calm.

Mine are 7 and 11 now so I have a different set of problems but I wouldn't want yours back for all the money in the world!

Bottle of cider would probably do it. They stop screaming and whinging after reaching 16. Then after two full minutes of sheer bliss they start all over again.

mate of mine used to do that years ago
trouble being the kid gets used to it and you end up driving further and further so much so when his wife rang him to say where are you hours later he said in CORNWALL and was booking in hotel for kip before he returned she was not amused and no he did not have a surf back then

With one of three and one of two... years old... I would like to confirm that Calpol is indeed manna(?) from heaven, and certainly ambrosia (food of the gods)... mix and match with the various childrens varieties (paracetamol and ibuprofen)... try not to overdo it though, 'cos they get used to that as well... we tend to use it in extreme circumstances... like when they have exhausted themselves, and you, from crying... then they finally go off... for a little while.

Use the driving.. (smooth roads work best with AT or MT tyres), not too fast mind... 30 to 35mph, something about the rythmn / humming of the tyres....? but only in extreme circumstances... The little people will get used to it quite quickly, and once they wake up as you bring them back into the house, you know you've lost that round.

Check the usual things, no temperature, rashes, out of character behaviour, etc... (don't start me on that NHS direct... number of rows I've had with them)....

Plenty of cuddles, and contact... tends to calm them a little. If part of their limbs of torso tends to be a little tense, then give them a little bit of a massage... (gives you an opportunity to check if anything seems to be wrong... knocks, bruises, etc...) You could always try and give them something to do, or concentrate on... they might just be bored.

Last piece of advice... get used to it. It will happen a lot more often...

My good lady has also mentioned that if the little one is indeed very little, they will probably be trying to build up their lungs... (they have to excercise them to get more oxygen in, to grow), or its just their way of communicating. They might just be lonely...

Good luck mate... plenty of folks on here with small ones who are more than happy to share their experiences...

If its been four hours worth, the little devil is probably famished, try a warm milk with Cowpoll, as previously mentioned, stuff of gods.
Not knowing age, my advice will be quite limited, but the drive works for ailments from gas to teething, motorways worked best for ours, and it gives Mums a couple of hours for a rest whilst Dad takes the children out.

Then for a good night (only works on formula milks) before bed, give the next level up, the body takes longer to digest it, therefore the little lovlies sleep longer before feeling hungry again. Also works with rice powder etc.

The trouble with Cowpoll is that you realy need to find the cause of upset, rather than just dishing it out, as it may just be that child is too hot, or needs a cuddle. A dark cool room with relaxing music is good for parent and child.

                        Best of luck,
                        Gtdog
Ok nicely done, when we dry off we can go find the boat!

It lasted a good few hours but she wawnt hot/cold/wet/poopy or hungry. It was just one of those "because i can" screams. thankfully she doesn't do it a lot but when she does.............

The 2 year old walked in, put a dummy in her mouth and said "shut up Phoebe" then walked out to play with her toys. Life is so simple at that age.
                          Cheers
