bonnet emblem 2.4

i've been looking at a few pics of other 2.4's since i got mine two days ago

noticeably absent from the hoods of the trucks in the pics is the mercedes style stand up badge on the bonnet of my truck. its perspex, with gold wings and 'hi lux' written on it. have i got an old hood fitted to my truck, or is there another explantion?

just curious to find out about the story behind the emblem - did a search didnt find too much

btw...day 3 - still grinning - didnt surf (as in the ocean waves) as too much fun cruising in the sun

It's probably a personalised accessory fitted by the previous owner. Never seen any bonnet emblems on any other Surf or 4Runner.

thanks vince - thats cleared that up! it's great knowing there are peeps with knowledge on these trucks...and who are prepared to share. in a few months who knows i may even be answering a couple of q's on here

i'll get a pic up in a day or two to show the previous owners handywork - he/she has done a pretty tidy job i reckon!

the emblem is mounted on a 'wire' that anchors on the inside of the hood, so that incase it gets knocked, it just folds over and springs back

My old MR2 (Mk1 - the best by far!) had a groovy, most untoyota like emblem on the bonnet. God I loved that car. Shame it rusted away to powder one particularly wet night.

The only other badge I've seen on Surfs, is a gold Lexus emblem in place of the Toyota one on the front grille. Maybe the owner wanted a posh truck!

i had a celica-supra 2.8 '84 that had a flat decal on the hood - it looked more like a delorean than anything else really

that car was the most reliable bullet proof tank i have ever owned...the surf reminds me of it everynow and again...whiff of blue carpet here, spongey key action there...freakin huge bonnet...easy to spot in tescos car park

i'll get a pick up tomorrow evening of the emblem

the 2.8 straight six from the celica supra fits in the surf? wow - that was one lump - i couldnt hurt it! are there many of them still about ?

i imagine that would be quite a combo. i also like the digitla dash in the celica supra - but wouldnt look right in the surf
