Can anyone offer me some advice for wiring up a sub and amp?

Below are pictures of the Amp and a diagram of the Sony Head Unit I use. The head unit has a separate line for a subwoofer, but I am unsure exactly how to wire it all up.

Can anyone give me some idea of which wires plug in where?
Do I need to wire the Amp up to the Ignition, or can I wire it to the head unit so it only comes on when the head unit is switched on?

Any help greatly appreciated as always.

Just a Sub to start with. I'm building a storage box for behind the back seat, and I'll be mounting a couple of 6x9's in the top.

Probably won't be until summer though.

if its sub only then take the phonos (sub out) from the head unit and put it into rear phonos on the amp. set at a mid level and then you can control it from the Sony without having to crawl around in the boot.

to power the amp on you need to take the blue wire from the Sony (cable 2 on diag) and put it to "rem" on the amp. presuming you have the power/earth sorted already.

you will need to take the main power supply direct from the battery the earth has to be a good one also you will need to connect the power antenna lead from the back of the stero that lead needs to be connected to switch on the amp

Should I be using thick 4 or 8 guage cable, or can I just use the standard 8 Amp cable that is single guage from Maplins?

What about all the Speaker outputs in the first picture though? Are they for additional speakers?

as its one sub you will prob want to bridge connections so connect it like this....

RL + (to + on sub)
RR - (to - on sub)
that way you get the power of 2 channels in 1 (according to your amp 300w which i guess is not RMS)
you could use the other channels for the 6x9's (if you run some more cables from the Sony)

not sure about the gauge of cable. a wiring kit is prob best.

It is a four channel amp, can it run with one pair of channels un-loaded...?

your best bet would be to buy a amp wiring kit from halfords it will contain most of the stuff you would require for the sub you would need some really thick or heavy duty speaker cable

It should be quite straight forward to be honest, and i suspect you would be able to bridge 2 channels quite easily.

It was far harder 3 years ago when i had a 1400watt rms class d monoblock amplifyer, running at 1 ohm bridged to two 2000watt rockford fostgate dual voicecoil subs. After 2 days i got fed up and called rockford fostgate to figure out how to wire it right!

Managed to smash the back window in my honda civic at one particular frequency though.

Very loud!

Indeed, it shouldn't be... but most manufacturers do give an indication of bridging capability on the speker connector blocks or around them. This amplifier has no marking to suggest this.
