    HELP!............

I know I put a questoin on here a while ago. I thought the shocks needed replacing on my 4 runner as everytime you go over a speed hump at 5 mph it's like riding a force 10 storm in a boat!

New shocks were the suggestion, however I have just been reading some threads that suggest that it's infact the springs that need replacing??

Now I'm all confused. My surf went over speed humps at 40 quite comfortably. - how can I do this with the 4runner?

Oh............. and yes.................... :-( it's got butt sag too

Springs cushion the bumps, shock absorbers (Dampers) prevent rebound, i.e. stop the bouncy bouncy action of the spring so the vehicle can be controled.

To check your shocks, open the trucks tailgate and push down on it sharply. It should only bounce once (you push down, the truck rebounds and comes to rest) If it keeps bouncing the shocks are knackered.

You've two seperate issues, if its bouncing after going over a bump then you need new shocks, if its got a saggy rear you need new springs. Normally on 4Runners its the front shocks that die first, (they don't seem to like all the speed humps around) but it's good practice to replace all 4 at the same time.

I'd recommend Procomp 9000 shocks all round, and a new set of springs in the rear, I can get straight factory spec, uprated or +2" lift.
