  • An old favorite question, 2nd or 3rd gen.

So, my 2nd gen 2.4 is getting pretty high milage now. It's done 120,000 miles (not clicks), and I'm doign about 30k a year. I'm guessing that whilst it is still running fine it will be getting pretty tired soon and I aught to start thinking about changing it maybe later this year.

I definitely want a 3.0 litre. I was thinking about the last of the secod gen's. I know how everythig works, I've got the towbar and roofrack etc, and to me they are more 'busineslike' in appearance than a 3rd gen, which is not quite a chelsea 4x4, but moving more that way. On the other hand the 3rd gen I suppose is a more refined vehicle and I could just about afford one. I've had a search about what the technical differences are (center diff, different tailgate etc) but what else should I be considereing?

    Cheers.

P.S. anyone got any idea what a tatty, high milage 2.4 might be worth these days? it's sound underneath and runs well but has been on and of building sites with the boot full of tools and it looks it.

Hi Dave, Afraid im not too well up on 3rd gens, They are probabley a big improvement on the earlier models, Mechanic'ly, All down to personal choice
i guess, I think the 2nds are amoungst the best looking truck and as you say the newer you go the more they look like a lot of other 4x4s, Idealy i would have 4th gen machinary in a 2nd gen body, Ian
Too young to die and too old to give a toss
