my father in law just traded in his KZN130 for a KZN185 he phoned me and asked me if the KZN185 had 4WD all the time or is it like his old one RWD only on the road so basicly does it have a center diff?

Can anyone help answer this question please

The KZN185 is a 3rd gen so the answer is yes.

it will be rwd only unless it is put into 4wd you can run on the road in 4wd as the 3rd gens have a centre diff

press the button for 4wd with diff open to use on the road.

pull lever back to H4 for 4wd diff locked.

apart from that it's RWD.

(and it's got L4 too, for low range gears.)

Yup, he should know more about what he is selling!!

A 3rd gen can be 2WD or 4WD on the road, as long as the center diff isn't locked (ie, not in 4H L, just in 2H/4H on the transfer case leave, and the 4WD button pressed.)

So just leave it where it is,,, what mode is it in when the orange light is on,
in the middle of the 4 green ones. ?

4 green lights on there own mean 4WD center diff unlocked.
4 green lights and an orange centre one mean 4WD center diff locked.
no lights at all mean 2WD

And you're surprised by this? IMHO most of them have always fallen into this category, most times I check out a vehicle at a dealer/garage for somebody I find the salesmen either don't know the proper details, know little about the product, or just plain lie. This goes from backstreet dealers right up to main dealers who don't know their own new products. In my experiences thru Ireland and England I've found they're generally all the same.
If you find a dealer that's genuinely good, stick with 'em, they're rare, thankfully there are some decent ones reviewed here on the forum.
That's why if you're not fully conversant with the vehicle you're interested in, its best to bring someone that does with you that you know you can trust.

Morrs got it right, you really need to do your own homework. Lets be a little bit realistic. Would you really expect every dealer to know everything about every vehicle that crosses his forecourt?
Of course you wouldnt expect him to lie either but I think thats a defence mechanism where they think its better to say anything rather than admit to not knowing, which a buyer might find offputting. I personally prefer the maxim " Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought an idiot, than to open it and remove all doubt.
