  • Diesel engines ?

This is the only diesel car I've ever had so my experience is a bit limited It's being running fine but this morning after starting ok it's running with a small vibration .
It starts runs & revs freely but theres a slight hesitance about it at all speeds. If it were a petrol engine I would say it was damp,or missing slightly on one cylinder or possibly the timing had slipped but on a diesel...
Theres no smoke, I gave it a long highspeed run to warm up & i've started & stopped it several times & it's still there.
    Suggestion please.......

I'm thinking what Marky said, plus look for any split or pulled off hoses on the intake and vacuum system, and clean out the air filter

All the filters get changed regularly but I,ll check the fuel one for water when its light & have a look at the vacuum pipes as I had a diesel specialist look at them the other week.
Does anyone have a diagram of where the various pipes in the vacuum system are supposed to go as the diesel fitter was none too sure ?

if it as you say, it feels like a slight misfire on one cylinder, then i would suspect a dodgy injector.

With a dodgy injector, wouldn't you expect to see some black smoke?
              Geof says theres no smoke.

how bout a fuel leak somewhere between the filter and the pump and on to the injectors, and air is getting in. How bout loose injectors nuts, theres two on each to tighten, bottom one had me flumoxed for a week or two of bad running.

If you had a undersupply of fuel rather than an oversupply (i.e. injector with a blockage then you would be unlikely to get smoke as that is mainly unburnt fuel.

Mine sometimes does this if it decides to start badly - it will run a little rough all day, other days it will run so smooth I wonder is it is still a diesel. But then I do know that my injectors are bu**ered.

                  Cheers

Still haven't managed to trace the problem , but whilst talking to an engineer at work he advised me to pour a gallon of paraffin in the tank.
Apparently redex etc is composed largely of this & it burns hotter & helps to dispose of clogging carbons etc.
I was wondering what the diesel braniacs thought of this ?
Anyway I'm trying it & either its improved things or I'm getting used to the fault!
