  • Is Your Surf a Boy or a Girl?

I was talking to my mate the other night and he was talking about his car and referring to it as 'She'

That got me thinking. Is a Surf Male or Female?

If you are talking about your pride and joy to you say "he can do this" or "she is great"?

I thought I would include a poll, so we can decide what the general concensus is regarding the Surf's gender.

A Toyota Surf, although very handsome, is an inanimate object, so therefore is an 'it'.

That is correct with regards to the English language. However, I believe the French and German languages use masculine or feminine to describe inanimate objects. I'm not sure what gender a car is given, because I failed French and only did German for 1 term before I was kicked out, but I think French for car is l'auto which is the feminine article.

Correct me if I'm wrong any froggies out there.

I thought it was "voiture" which indeed is feminine.

                      cheers,

A car could be un auto or une voiture:

IIRC, it is un auto (masculine) - the definite article is l'auto, purely because the noun starts with a vowel!
On the other hand, it is une voiture - feminine form - take your pick!

Both are correct usages, so take your pick
