can someone tell me what is behind the dash in front of the passenger in between the air vents , where an air bag would normally go?

i want to inlay a dvd screen bout an inch deep

any help most appreciated

Hmmm - just part of the bulkhead I think but I can't remember taking all the top of the dash out to install the stereo.
Methinks you should get the spanners out, find out & let us all know

Seem to remember that there is quite a lot of stuff behind there - a large tube member for a start. I managed to get my car kit control box stuffed up there behind the air pipes but there isn't a lot of room. You might manage it but I think you would be better making up something to fit it on the surface of the crash pad. If you got some of that modelling foam that is used for making moulds and then covered it with some matching material then you could cut it to the right shape and make a neat job of it. It would also save it getting too warm if the heater is on and blowing through the vents.

This sounds like a job for Big T and his new didgicam the new elected photographer for the forum.
I also recal a large tube and not a lot of space between it and the dash.
I think there are two re-setable fuses there and a rectangular box very much like the ECU size and shape.
How about some pics of your new Surf.

WRONG the box you are talking about is in the left foot well there is only the tops of the heater and air-con units and the wireing loom and some space.

If you are talking about the one on the floor in the centre console that is the 4 wheel drive relay. l have just changed 2 dashes on my reshells why do you want to know what is behind them.

The one I remeber was held up with two black ties to the round tube mabe someone has already been messing in there. I will have to have another look it may well be the 4 wheel drive relay. Ther is no real reason
nothing is wrong but I like to know what's what.
