    Does anyone have any experience in changing a cam belt on a 3.0 ssrg?
    mines done 97,000 so its coming up for a change very soon.

    Tony N can probably do them in his sleep so ask him first. If you wanna do it at home I would recon on about 3 hours myself for the first time but this is pure guesswork.
    Someone yesterday said a Yota main dealer had quoted a stupid cheap price. do a search and you will find.

      Not too taxing a job, and the belt available from roughtrax for about £17 if I recall. Timewise, took about 2 hours odd. There are guides on this site somewhere. Thats where I got my info from when I did mine. Not the right time of year for DIY though if you dont fancy frostbite.

          Its straight forward, remove the rad cowl and fan to give yourself some room, remove the cover, line the timing marks up and unbolt the tensioner.

          Check the tensioner for fluid leaks, and it should need substantial pressure to close it up, if it shows signs of leaking or is easy to push in replace it, or just replace it anyway for peice of mind they arn't that expensive. Then check the idler has no play in the bearing and spins free and without noise.

          When refitting, SLOWLY close the tensioner up in a vice and slip a 1.5mm drill of allen key through the holes to keep it closed, refit the belt making sure there is no slack on the right hand side of the belt or this will throw the timing out, bolt in the tensioner, pull the drill out to take up the slack.

          Turn it over one whole revolution BY HAND! and check the timing marks line up still, if so your done.

              Hi mate.

              I have just had mine done, and it's an easy job.

              First, order a belt and tensioner from Toyota. You need the following parts.

              Timing belt - part no - Y13568 - 69085 (£26.47)
              Belt tensioner - part no - Y13540 - 67020 (£37.76)
              Timing case gasket - part no - Y11328 - 67020 (£17.07)

              You might not need the tensioner, but it definitely makes sence to change it when doing the job, as you need a press to press the plunger back in to do the job.

              Undo the four bolts and two clips that secure the timing case in place. The guy did mine without removing the fan etc. It's a little tight, but can be done.
              Remove timing case to expose belt. Line up the timing marks on the top pulley and fuel pump pulley by putting the correct size spanner on the bottom pulley and turning the engine over until they allign.
              Remove the tensioner by undoing the two securing bolts. Slide the old belt off and re-fit the new one. Fit the new tensioner in place making sure the belt is on correctly and the timing marks are still in allignment.
              Remove the "grenade pin" from the tensioner, this releases the plunger againsed the idler pulley and takes all the slack out of the belt.
              Re-fit the timing cover, using the new gasket. Job done.

              Do this yourself, as I paid a Toyota specialist mobile mechanic to do the job for me (£70) and it was an easy job that I could have done myself.
