    Hey people
The joys of buying a diesel vehicle that i know nothing about,
Ive got a small problem when i start me surf. I turn the ignition on and wait for the coil light to go out and then turn the key but it doesnt fire up straight away it turns the engine over quick enough but it doesnt fire up.
Most of the time i have to wait till the ignition warning sounds thingy come on an even then it dont fire up on the 1st turn of the key. Up untill today i know it would start but it would take time. But this morning i didnt start and ended flattening the battery.
if any of you more 'wiser' surf owners could shed some light on it , it would be mucho appreciated
    Cheers

I would check the batteries first anyway.
try cycling the glow plug light a few times and then try and start it.

May have air in the fuel line which can creap in , as you say , overnight .Check condition of hoses and connections . Around the fuel filter is a common place for air ingress .

next time before your first start try switching on ignition then pump the button on top of the fuel filter until it goes firm, sounds like your getting air drawn in to fuel lines while cooling down.

oops vagrant beat me to it

Sounds to me like one or more of your glowplugs are on the way out.

Buy a new set, bung 'em in & you should be sorted. You can get the plugs from any motor factors. Try to get blue print if you can, as they are OE & loads cheaper than from Toyota.

As the engine is whizzing round on the key (but not starting) the batteries sound OK

            hope this helps
