  • What a Shock!

    Well!
I finally got around to ordering some new shocks. I had been debating this for a while and finally bit the bullet after test driving a work colleagues pretty battered up surf with new shocks on a finding it a lot more comfy than mine. I suppose 14 years isnt bad for one set of shocks. Anyway, i ordered Explorer ES3000's for the front and ES9000's for the back. He said i should have them by Wed. Might get them on before Crimbo with any luck. Hopefully i'll notice a difference.

Mmmm am jealous. How much and from who?

Why did you go for 3000 on front, do 9000s not go on front. Have never had a close look so are front ones shorter or is it the same be it back or front? I suppose 3000 arent as hard as 9000 is that it?

Are you going for higher sprongs or have you done that one already.

      Oh and what colour boots

That combo is a good idea, unless your running a heavy winch bumper or bigger tyres, the front doesn't really need any extra damping, just bringing back to normal.

9000's on the back work great for handling and extra load carrying.

        Good plan.

          Cheers Guys!
Yeah Tony, i took your advice from one of the earlier threads on shocks and i remembered reading it before too.

Jim, i ordered the from www.explorerprocomp.co.uk. Altogether, everything incl courier was about £170, which is about €524,674, give or take. Had Milners uprated springs already, so this will do till i get my 4" lift some time next year or the year after.

Looking forward to it. Fill you in when i get them!

Oh! And red boots too. i'll be just like Dorothy!

Permission not being sought until this festive season has become a faded memory to all but the likes of MBNA. I just wanna do it all at once and that means about 2 or 3 grand coz I wanna lift her, widen her and get some 32's in there with decent rims.

is it a hard job to install them yourself, a christmas break job? or best left to a mechanic. I have been toying with the idea of new suspension for a year or so and not done anything, but now feel it is time as well.

I'd give it a go but you gotta be prepared for the other things that go wrong and break while your just doing your job.

The only tricky bit is the top nuts tend to seize on the thread, WD40 and a quailty 8 point ring spanner/deep socket are needed, and grips on the shaft (if using them again, use padding around the shaft) Otherwise, just grind them off. Plus the drivers side rear is tricky to get to cos of the panhard rod bracket. easier with the wheel off.

I dont forsee any problems. Reckon about 2 hours at the most should do it. Of course, i may eat my words but i havnt found a nut or bolt i couldnt undo with the help of a 1/2" breaker bar and a vice grip. Oooh misssus!
