250 mile round trip mate . Not a bad drive . 2hr door to door each way.

Thank Angie for the burgers and tea and the cake .

Hope you get the rest back together tomorrow . Any bolts left over are always handy to keep in the tool box for when the item they were supposed to have fully hold on falls off you can then put it back on properly .

Right the story so far..I spent all day putting stuff back on,you know like the rad and air filter, front grill and the like and I still got bits left over,I'll take apiccy later and if you need any of it yell but its mostly bolts, although I do have an aircon unit, still I digress.
I put in the coolant ran it up with the rear heater on and all seemed well for about 15 mins when the old girl spat out coolant. Not to worry thought I it must be an air lock. But to be on the safe side just incase the thermostat was shot,(cos the old girl got well cooked)I took it out.filled the system again and the temp guage went straight to hot and stayed there, then dropped to normal then went hot and stayed there so I figured that was shot as well.Whizzed down to wilcos but they had none so I had to order them (be here monday).Anyway with the thermostat out she still spits coolant after a while.
My question is What do I do now?
Oh yeah you know that old adage if it aint brke dont fix it WEEELLLL..
While I could get at it I thought I would check the steering box oil level (well on a suzi you undo the threaded nut and screw and fill up from there)so I did the same on my surf but in my eagerness I forgot to jack up the front end.I undid the nut and the screw moved, now I dont know why but I thought NO this aint right so I did up the nut and left it alone. went for a test drive after the rebuild and guess what? yep steering oil is falling out of the bottom of the steering box.......OH BUGGA another job to do.
I am now heading for the bath with a huge glass of wine in my hand to contemplate on life and the world of surfizum.

Is she firing on all 4 cylinders now ? As she was a little 'missy' yesterday which I thought was air in fuel .

You need at least the outer piece of the thermostat or the waterpump will cavitate and it will overheat as bad as if the stat was locked shut .

Are the hoses going rock hard with pressure ?

Does sound like air lock . The fuel cat may not help as it is so high up . I suggest clamping off the fuel cat pipes and bleed out the front heater first , then the rear and finally let the clamps off the cat .

The thremostat is a one piece but in the Zook and other 'specialist' cars I have cut out the centre piece to give a freer flow and slower warm up rate , but you need the outer 'shell' of the stat in place .

Hope this helps mate , dont give up now ,it will be fixed . I can come back down Sunday after next if needed .
