took the ole beast for her birthday mot today...it was diffrent to say the least .....

any answers on these will help rest the mind......

main question ....no emisions test, why is this....?,

didnt pick up on speedo being in kph ,

or that a fog lamp was not present,

the brake test had to be done manualy on the road not on the brake tester...

not a bad turn out thou ....1 spilt in the exaust = a quick weld

offside front wheel bearin excessive play = quick tighten ?

ns and os rear anti roll bar bush knackered

and the 40ish yrold mot.er said its the solidest 13yrold yet ....quite chuffed with that and considering that he looked way passed his mot retirment

time to now moan ....." F'ing £40 for a 20min check jus to tell me its failed ,then the cheeky F'er wants an extra £20 for the re exam
cant realy blame him, suppose its the goverments doing ?

thanks in advance for any questions answered

He is taking the pi*s. Most garages wont charge you if you take it back to them so they can check the work has been done. Pay him the 20 quid, get your ticket, then find somewhere else.

I wouldn't complain about him not testing the emissions or brakes unless you want to chance the risk of it failing on something else?

Can't believe he missed the fog light. Where did he buy his dodgy MOT testers cert from?

this guy been doing it for years, hes knowen to bypass some things
they all now charge for a retest, phone about my area and all the same here ....
as far as im concerned bypassin the emsions test may have saved me a packet so a extra £20 for the retest is nowt really

by the way im NOT complainin about the non emision test

I thought the tester wasn't allowed by law to charge for a retest as long as it's done within one week.

Mine failed a couple of weeks ago, and I've still got the MOT Fail sheet somewhere which I'm sure says on the back that a retest is free within 1 week. I'll dig it out and let you know.

Surprised there was no emissions test too. I thought that was mandatory for Diesels? From what I've heard, the Surf has a tendancy to have high emissions, unless you are using Vege so maybe a good thing it wasn't checked.

More money making. If this is the case, then garages will have more of an excuse to fail it, to get the extra money out of your wallet.

I've been taking all my vehicles to the same garage for the past six years, and the guy only charges if it passes. If it's a failure he tells you what to do to make it pass, you go away do the work fetch it back and then he dates the pass certificate with the date you first took the vehicle to him.
The garage only does M.O.T.s and no other work, so their appointments book is always full.

                right

well if want proper facts here goes
1 you should have had a smoke test
2 not being permanent 4 wheel drive you have had brake test done on a rolling road
3 as for charging i do mots and do them propley my problem is now that the gov have forced an computer on me that moniters my time on test and sends stats back to vosa.
i.e swipe id card at start of test and swipe id card at end of test .
you see you now should only get free retest on minor items represented within 24 hours . this because in any other circumstance i have to spend another 40 minute test on your car even on small items
                I,LL GO FIRST NO PROB
                (i also juggle dynamite)

I do the same, up until last mot anyway, The old fella that used to do mine's
retired and the new bloke is a real ball breaker by all accounts, Managed to
find another good one though through reccomendation, He dosent do the
test himself, Gives it a quick visual then takes it for the test, Takes all his
mots there and will do any work if needed, The place is in the middle of
nowere, Looked like a post nuclear settlement, I thought i'm not gonna see my truck again but it was fine, went straight through, This guy's a good
friend of my sons-girlfriends-dad, so i dont think he gonna screw me unless
he finds out my sons been erm! lets say "having knowlage" of his mates daughter, You got to go on reccomendation to find a good honest mot tester
and once you find one stick with him and give him a drink if it passes.

You guys are being stitched, I just paid £25 for my MOT, and had the re-test two days later at no further cost.
I was under the impression that the re-test was legaly free for one week after the first test failure?

Looks like Milners will be selling a few of their orange polly bushes for the rear antiroll bar!

                    Best of luck with it!

                    All the best,
                    Gtdog
Ok nicely done, when we dry off we can go find the boat!

the first test should be a proper 1 thou ? with all the defects shown on 1st test paper

eg ... no good me fixin the probs on first time mot fail then takin it back for a £20 retest then to find out its failed agian on a emision test to fix this and get yet another £20 retest this would be unfair

The MOT test by the letter allows 1 day for repairs if taken away from the test station. Most allow a week, sometimes 2 weeks but this is down to the test station.
As far as the brake test goes the tester was right in not putting it on the rolling road as it may have a LSD.. if unsure they will use a salter meter (manual guage) to determine the braking force. This is normal and shows the tester is unsure of any diff locking device.
The emmisions test should be done on all tests so your lucky in that respect.
                        BEWARE OF THE REAPER

Rear Left Anti Roll Bar Bushes, shot!

                            Where does one get these?
