Rear Suspension Lift

Is anyone going to seriously tell me that sticking the back 2" in the air is going to improve handling? If so why were so many Capris and Cortinas wrapped around trees and lamposts in the late 70's?

The springs are stiffer, to compensate for the extra momentum of the taller truck, it should handle the same as from the factory when new.

Most 10 year plus coils are to saggy and soft, when you fit any new springs, lifted or stock, it improves the handling no end.

Thats all, there no physics defying magic going on.

Yeah, well I had to do all the other c rap 'cos I would have ripped my flexy brake hose off, and my rear wheels would have locked up before the fronts and my wheels stuck out about an inch on the drivers side. so..........

Yeah, but you've got more than 1 1/2" of lift havn't you.........



(you've got the brake thing round the wrong way, lifting the back of the truck, makes the bias valve think the truck is lighter, so applies less rear brake)

wish i hadnt said anything now !, thanks for the advise had an email form roughtrax saying the same thing, they recon they have never had any probs with just changing the springs and shocks, so my truck is going in on Tuesday for the necessary

remember if you want to adjust the front just wind up the torsion bars

Any tips on doing the torsion bar adjustment? Have looked all over the place for a thread, but have seen nothing.

I'm going to get the springs done at the rear first, then see about cranking the front at a later date.

Has anyone found anyone in the UK who makes the spring spacers like codlord used? Everyone seems to be getting them from the US.

If someone in the UK started making them, there could be quite a few takers!

Yep agree that new springs work wonders, replaced mine with stock length but uprated and it was loads better (mine had done under 20,000 miles as well) but still can't see that longer springs would help, surely these would give more scope for lateral movement, compression outside the central axis etc. Why do sportscars have very short springs?

When mine was 2" higher handling was no worse than before and i'd say better as i used new shocks....

When i used 3" higher coils the handling was ok but not as id like it and i HAD to slow for corners...maky
