speedo and odometer problem

hi can anyone help me with this problem
my speedo works fine and is quite accurate altho a bit jumpy
the trouble is it has stoped counting up the miles
i think it has been like this for a couple of weeks now as i do use the counter from time to time and it was working the last time i looked
reset it to zero the other day and it has not gone up since
if anyone has any idea help would be appreciated

Join the club, ours has never worked since day one.

I'd rather it worked as well and if its an easy fix.
