  • Undersealing question (another one)

    Howdey!
Just about to get mine undersealed but i'm not sure exactly what I should be using. I know it's Waxoil (sp?) but there a few types of this.
Does anyone know the exact stuff I should be using?

    Thanks

Okay, just spoken to a couple of places (dont really trust myself to do it) and their talking about £350.
They say that it's only really worth steam cleaning on new cars.
With older cars they have to blast the metal to remove corrosion and then waxoil over.

                This sound reasonable?

                  Hi Dolph
I got told something similar at the body shop I enquired at. In fact he stongly advised me not to have it done !!!!!. Said it would be just trapping moisture in there and was only worth doing on brand new vehicles. He even said It would be better to spray the underside with oil !!!!!
As you can imagine this has left me very confused. I dont realy have anywhere at home that I could do this job or I would do it my self. I am going to enquire at other bodyshops in the area to see what their comments are. I remember another post on this subject which mentioned a product called "Dinitrol" I think I will check this out as well.

you gotta steam clean it to get all the crap and loose stuff off, then leave it to dry overnight.
waxoyl has some stuff in it to kill off any rust left and seals it so that no more can develop.
think the whole idea is to start with it spotless otherwise it's pointless putting the waxoyl on a dirty car!

Dinatrol is more of an industrial thing used in aircraft etc its more expensive than waxoyl but basically does the same thing.

                        Just done mine

Just sprayed mine with waxoil. You can use oil if your a cheapskate. It will help but I would not use really old oil, it has nasty things in it.

I use a compressor and an old spray gun. Blasts it into all the tight spots and it goes much further. Use a mask. Very little mess as it does not drip or splodge using a gun.. I did try one of the spray things that go on the can, useless I found. A proper spray gun does the job in no time at all, just cover the discs and boots with rags and away you go.

                          Hi,
Whatever you do make sure its dry underneath before you start and i mean Ghandi's flip-flop type dry. Totally and utterly NOT WET at all or you are just asking for trouble. Its best done in a heated garage or in the summer.

                          Cheers

Hi, Waxoyle is obviously the way to go then. Thanks for the info about Dinatrol Koi. I must have been unlucky with the body work place I first approached. Methinks I will do it my self somehow. Probably wait till summer now wot with the weather we having lately. Many thanks for replies.

In the summer use a garden pump up sprayer, when its hot the waxoyl is easier to use, more liquified. You could stand the container in a bucket of hot water to keep it liquified. But in the summer is a lot easier nice dry motor and runny waxoyl.
